Jammu and Kashmir: India summons Pakistani diplomat over ceasefire violation along LoC

India on Saturday summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and lodged a robust protest with him over the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces on a number of sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir focusing on harmless civilians on the eve of Diwali.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned, within the strongest phrases, the “deliberate targeting” of harmless civilians by Pakistani forces and stated it was extremely deplorable that Pakistan selected a festive event in India to disrupt peace and perpetrate violence in Jammu and Kashmir by coordinated firing along the LoC.

“The Charge d’Affaires of the High Commission of Pakistan was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs today and a strong protest was lodged over unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistani forces, on multiple sectors along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on November 13, resulting in the death of four innocent civilians and serious injuries to 19 others,” the MEA stated.

Triggering a serious flare-up along the LoC on the eve of Diwali, Pakistan resorted to heavy shelling in a number of areas along the LoC in north Kashmir killing 5 safety personnel other than the civilians following which Indian Army mounted a serious retaliation pounding a number of Pakistani positions with anti-tank guided missiles and artillery weapons.

Indian navy sources stated at the least eight Pakistani troopers have been killed and 12 others injured within the retaliation.

“India condemns, in the strongest terms, the deliberate targeting of innocent civilians by Pakistani forces,” the MEA stated in a press release.

“It is highly deplorable that Pakistan chose a festive occasion in India to disrupt peace and perpetrate violence in J and K through coordinated firing along the length of the LoC using heavy caliber weapons, including artillery and mortar on Indian civilians,” it stated.

The MEA additionally reminded Pakistan of its bilateral dedication to not permit any territory underneath its management for use for terrorism towards India in any method.

“India also strongly protested Pakistan’s continued support to cross border terrorist infiltration into India, including through supporting cover fire provided by Pakistan forces,” the MEA stated.
