Wolfgang Petersen, the Oscar-nominated director of “In The Line Of Fireplace”, “Air Power One” and “The Excellent Storm,” has died on account of pancreatic most cancers, his consultant confirmed to Fox Information Digital. He was 81.

The German filmmaker died peacefully on Friday at his Brentwood, California dwelling within the arms of his spouse of fifty years, Maria Antoinette. 

In 1981, Petersen made his breakthrough with the German-language WWII movie “Das Boot”, which he wrote and directed. The submarine epic acquired six Academy Award nominations, with Petersen scoring nods for finest director and finest tailored screenplay.

The success of “Das Boot” launched Petersen to worldwide fame and paved his strategy to directing Hollywood blockbusters. His first English-language challenge was the 1984 fantasy movie “The NeverEnding Story”, which he adopted up with the 1985 science fiction motion drama “Enemy Mine.”

In an announcement obtained by Fox Information Digital following Petersen’s dying, Shut mentioned, “Being directed by Wolfgang on ‘Air Power One’ stays a particular reminiscence. Although the script was thrilling and extremely intense, I bear in mind a number of laughs, particularly within the scenes across the large desk within the Struggle Room.” 


She continued, “Wolfgang set a remotely managed digital camera that would rotate in place, seamlessly overlaying all of us, one after one other. You knew the digital camera would pause on you by his hilarious route whereas organising the shot. 

“He would level to us in flip and say, ‘Appearing…appearing…NO appearing…NO appearing…ACTING… aaaacting!’ He did not waste anybody’s time. My reminiscence is of a person stuffed with joie de vivre who was doing what he most cherished to do.”

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker died due to pancreatic cancer on Friday at his home in Brentwood, California.

Petersen went on to direct two back-to-back blockbusters together with the 2000 catastrophe movie “The Excellent Storm” starring George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Diane Lane and the 2004 interval piece “Troy”, which was headlined by Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Orlando Bloom.

After his 2006 catastrophe movie “Poseidon” carried out poorly on the field workplace, Petersen took a ten-year hiatus. He returned with the 2016 heist comedy “Vier gegen die Financial institution”, which marked his first German-language challenge since “Das Boot” and would turn out to be his closing movie.


Along with his spouse Maria Antoinette, Peterson is survived by his son Daniel, his daughter-in-law Berit and two grandchildren Maja and Julien. His consultant confirmed to Fox Information Digital that his funeral service shall be non-public.
