Acclaimed filmmkaer Deepa Mehta’s upcoming characteristic “Funny Boy” will characterize Canada on the 93rd Academy Awards as the submission for greatest international film, marking the director’s second time competing within the class. Mehta’s film “Water”, the third characteristic in her Elements trilogy, was Oscar-nominated within the international characteristic film class in 2007. The first film within the trilogy was “Earth” and the director adopted it up with “Fire”.
“Funny Boy” is an adaptation of creator Shyam Selvadurai’s 1994 novel of the identical. Set in Sri Lanka through the 1970s and 1980s, the film explores the sexual awakening of its younger protagonist Arjie (performed by Arush Nand/Brandon Ingram) from a younger boy, deemed “funny” by disapproving household, to a teen enamoured by a male classmate.
