Senior Congress chief and former Union minister Salman Khurshid, together with Udit Raj and CPI(M) chief Brinda Karat have been named in the most recent chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police in the Delhi riots case for giving ‘provocative speeches’ throughout the protests towards the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
According to a PTI information report, the Delhi Police has referred to former Congress Councillor Ishrat Jahan and a protected witness in a case associated to the northeast Delhi riots and stated that they instructed in regards to the speeches in their disclosure statements.
The 17,000-page chargesheet accommodates a press release from a witness saying, “Umar Khalid, Salman Khurshid, Nadeem Khan.. they all used to give provocative speeches (at anti-CAA/NRC sit-ins in Delhi) and people used to get mobilised”.

“In order to sustain the protest for a long time, several known persons were called by me and Khalid Saifi on the instructions of JCC, like Salman Kurshid, (filmmaker) Rahul Roy, Bhim Army member Himanshu, Chandan Kumar… gave provocative speeches because of which all the people sitting in the protest used to get instigated against the government,” Jahan stated in accordance with her disclosure assertion.
The disclosure assertion of Saifi said that throughout the anti-CAA protests held in January 2020 “Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogender Yadav, (senior advocate) Prashant Bhushan, Salman Kurshid… also used to come to these speeches.”
